It was a night of fear and apprehension for the inhabitants of the municipalities of Pozzuoli, Bacoli, Monte di Procida, Quarto and the Phlegraean area of Naples.
After yesterday's shock of equal intensity, another earthquake of magnitude 3.9 was recorded shortly after midnight in the area of Campi Flegrei. According to data from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the earthquake occurred at 00:19 in the Agnano-Pisciarelli area with a hypocenter just two km deep and an epicenter five km from Pozzuoli.
But shortly before midnight two more were recorded shock of magnitude 3.0 in rapid succession and at a distance of one minute. Then until 6,02 this morning there was a succession of shocks until 6.02 of low intensity.
But with three above magnitude 2 and precisely one of magnitude 2.3 at 1,39, one of magnitude 2 at 3,14 and one of magnitude 2.4 at 5,04. The seismographs of the Vesuvius observatory report over 20: a clear sign that a significant seismic swarm is underway.
The tremors, especially the one at 0,19, startled many Phlegraean citizens who poured into the streets, especially in Pozzuoli, as reported in his images by photojournalist Enzo Buono who published them on his social channels.
The tremor was also felt in Naples where debris fell from a building in Vomero. Checks by Prote began yesterday evening
The prefect of Naples called a meeting of the committee with the mayors and the National Civil Protection. The checks did not reveal any damage to people.
The Head of Department, Fabio Ciciliano, chaired, at 1.30 am, a crisis unit in video link with the territory. During the meeting, given the number of citizens who poured into the streets, the activation of the volunteers of civil protection and the opening of reception and waiting areas for citizens of the municipalities of Pozzuoli, Bacoli and Naples. The shock last night was really scary. Citizens were forced to leave their homes and many stayed awake until dawn. I hope the situation can return to normal soon, but earthquakes cannot be predicted.
It is worrying to see how these tremors continue to happen. Civil protection must always be ready and citizens must be informed about what to do in case of emergency.
The schools being closed is a good decision to protect the kids, but I hope people don't panic. Earthquakes are part of life in this area, it's important to stay calm.
