The investigating judge of the Court of Napoli, during the preliminary hearing, accepted the constitution of the Municipality of Castellammare di Stabia as a civil party in the proceedings involving the Cesarano clan.
18 people, had been hit by a custody order in July 2023 and accused of various crimes, including mafia-type association, attempted murder, extortion, carrying of a clandestine weapon and robbery. The only request to join the civil action was made by the Municipality of Castellammare di Stabia, dissolved due to infiltration by organized crime.
The extraordinary commission that currently manages the Municipality has motivated the request to be constituted as a civil party by underlining the "striking damage to its image" suffered due to the news, which has received resonance in the main national press organs. The extraordinary Commission has written to the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Napoli last November, expressing the need to be informed about relevant legal proceedings, in order to submit formal requests to join the civil action.
The aim is to protect the Authority from the serious economic and social impacts resulting from crimes committed by members of Camorra clans on the local community and on civil coexistence. On January 24, the Municipality will present a new request to be constituted as a civil party in a different process related to the camorra.
