The second section of the Court of Appeal of Napoli reduced the sentence imposed on the accused Alessio Pica, accused of the attempted murder of Anthony Storaro since Health District di Napoli in December 2021, at 5 and a half years old.
Article Key Points
In the first instance, he was assigned eight years and three months of imprisonment. The lawyer Raffaele Chiummariello defended Pica, already acquitted of the aggravating circumstance of camorra, of premeditation and of abject and futile motives.
According to investigators from the Neapolitan DDA, Pica allegedly tried to kill Storaro, with whom he had disagreements over the latter's refusal to continue working in the drug dealing area managed by Pica in the old quarter of the city.
The meeting between the two took place in Piazza San Vincenzo, where Pica, under a pretext, allegedly poured gasoline on Storaro, then set him on fire. It is important to note that, at the time of the events, Pica was under house arrest.
Storaro was rescued by his mother and some residents who managed to put out the flames. He was subsequently admitted to the Cardarelli hospital for “multiple body site burns”. Despite investigations and wiretaps, the motive for the attack was not clear from the beginning, and doubts were not resolved even by the wiretapped conversations.
The wiretaps did not clarify the motive
In one of them, a relative of Pica defended him, claiming that “Alessio did well… too much confidence”. Meanwhile, Storaro's mother, in a conversation at the barracks with her son's girlfriend, seemed to know how the events had unfolded and was sceptical about the Carabinieri's investigations: “But if you know… what do you want from me…”, said.
