The Touring Club Italiano, in synergy with the Foundation Castel Capuano, joyfully announces the return of the guided tours at the historic Neapolitan Castle, starting tomorrow, Saturday 16 March.
Interrupted due to the pandemic, these precious opportunities for discovery and culture will resume thanks to the renewed collaboration between Aldo De Chiara, president of the Castel Capuano Foundation, the consuls Antonio Buonajuto and Giulio Colella, together with the regional councilor and consul Giovanni Pandolfo. The guided tours, organized by the Territory Club of Napoli, will begin at 10 am tomorrow and will be divided into several shifts to accommodate a greater number of participants. Reservations are required at the email address: NAPOLI@volontaritouring.it. Visitors will have the honor of being accompanied by expert guides and volunteer members of “Aperti per Voi”, an initiative that is committed to promoting access to cultural sites throughout Italy that would otherwise be closed to the public.
Among the places “Open for You” in Naples, there are the Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore, the Basilica of San Paolo Maggiore and the Church of Santa Maria Egiziaca. Another place of great interest is the Royal Palace of Portici, located at the gates of the Neapolitan capital. Castel Capuano, after Castel dell'Ovo, is the oldest castle in the city, with Norman origins and a history that has seen it as the seat of the Court of Naples for over five hundred years.
Located at the end of Via dei Tribunali, Castel Capuano owes its name to Porta Capuana, which opens onto the road that led to ancient Capua. After having been a fortress and a royal residence, it became, in 1540, the seat of all the Courts and later the Palace of Justice. After a recent restoration, the castle reopens its doors to the citizens, who will once again be able to admire its splendid rooms and valuable works of art, tangible witnesses of the thousand-year history of Naples.
Starting next fall, the Touring Club Italiano, in collaboration with the Castel Capuano Foundation, plans to organize special visits for secondary school students, on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the Touring Club Italiano, thus celebrating the history and culture that make the city of Naples unique.
