“The situation that commuters in our region have to endure on a daily basis is unacceptable”, says Legambiente. “We ask for a table of responsibility with all the parties involved”.
Legambiente highlights the serious inconveniences suffered by Campania commuters: delays, cancellations, abandoned stations, insecurity, inaccessibility for the disabled and lack of adequate information and communication.
“These disruptions have an economic impact and an impact on the health of citizens”,
Legambiente underlines, citing the data of theLegambiente and Ispos Mobility Styles Observatory. Naples is the hardest hit city, with 34% of citizens giving up job opportunities, 29% giving up medical visits, and 19% giving up study opportunities in the last year.
Legambiente asks for an active and concrete discussion table, avoiding “appointments in which decisions already made are communicated.”
Antonio Gallozzi, by Legambiente Campania, denounces the chaos of public transport, highlighting the situation of the historic Naples-Salerno line, interrupted since January 2024, and the continuous interruptions of the Naples metro.
“It is not acceptable to give priority to travellers heading to Sorrento to the detriment of those heading to other destinations”, says Gallozzi. “We ask the mayors to enforce the constitutional rights of free movement of citizens”.
