Naples. "Allocating over €4 million of the tourist tax to avoid the Tari increase is ridiculous.

It would have been more useful to increase the fight against tax evasion which, unfortunately, despite the announcements of our Administration, is bringing insufficient results".

Salvatore Naldi, president of Federalberghi Naples, commenting on the content of a resolution of proposal to the City Council approved by the City Council of Naples.

“The tourist tax – adds Naldi – must be used to improve services to tourists, starting for example from urban decorum and hospitality at the gates of the city, and not to cover budget holes for current and past debts.

Neapolitan hoteliers already pay the Tari, with rates among the highest in Italy, precisely for the waste that tourists could produce. It is, therefore, unthinkable that the guest could pay another tax for the same reason.

It should be noted that tourists bring wealth and that tourists are understood to be those who stay overnight in the city, visit museums, shop in stores, not visitors who come to attend a concert or an event and then return home or on a cruise ship, without producing a real economic benefit for the area and without paying any taxes.

The tax, in fact, only applies to tourists who stay in a hotel or regular non-hotel accommodation. Many hotels, moreover, have chosen to turn to private companies to have a much more efficient service, respectful of the environment and capable of achieving 100% separate waste collection.

A virtuous behavior that also produces a reduction in costs. While the costs of public waste management are continually increasing also due to the inability to offer a punctual door-to-door service and serious separate waste collection”, concludes Naldi.
