The 44 year old was arrested last night by police of the station Mondragone, was riding an electric scooter along Via Domiziana, near that town, when, after having driven a few times outside a lingerie and leather goods shop, he stopped his vehicle and with a lightning-fast move forced open the sliding doors, turning on the lights inside undisturbed.
The criminal, sure that he had not been noticed, began rummaging through the numerous bags and wallets on display, also attempting to force open the cash register of the business.
Too busy with his attempt to carry out the robbery, he did not notice that a patrol from the local station, which was carrying out a territorial control service right along that road, arrived behind him and stopped him red-handed.
The thief from Mondragona, already known to the police, was immediately put in handcuffs. Taken to the barracks, he was arrested and held in the Carabinieri's holding cells, at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
He will have to answer for attempted crime theft aggravated.
