The activity of will continue today, after having continued for a good part of yesterday, reclamation of the areas affected by the forest fire that affected the upper area of Via Montagnelle.
The action, conducted by firefighters, civil protection and volunteers from city associations, is aimed in particular at preventing any point that is not completely extinguished from starting to burn again.
Also yesterday a fire started in Via Ruggiero, another area close to the protected areas of the national park of Vesuvio: in this case, the prompt intervention of the ground teams made it possible to contain the flames and prevent them from dangerously spreading.
As with via Montagnelle, there were no dangers for residents. The cleanup activity now allows the mayor of Torre del Greco, Luigi Mennella, to take a more serene view of the situation: “These were intense days – says the mayor – that required a deployment of considerable forces and resources, to deal with emergency situations.
Fortunately, the work put in has borne fruit. I would therefore like to thank first of all the prefect of Naples, Michele of Bari, which with its offices expertly coordinated the various entities involved in the fire-fighting activities.
How fundamental was the role of the Campania Region and its civil protection unit, always ready to listen to our every request.
The work carried out by firefighters and law enforcement agencies, without exception, was extremely important. Together with our local police and municipal civil protection offices, they spared no effort in trying to put out the fires. fire, limit damage to the environment and prevent the flames from causing danger to people.
Last but not least, thanks must be given to the volunteers of the civil protection associations and to those who, with a great spirit of sacrifice and love for others, put themselves on the line in moments that were truly particularly difficult”.
