Naples – The men who stole the Compass branch safe on Via Cimarosa, located across from the Chiaia funicular, carried out a robbery in Vomero during the night.
A new episode of breakthrough night crime occurred in Vomero, marking the return of this type of crime after two decades.
The incident has raised concerns among local merchants. Enzo Perrotta, president of the Centro Commerciale Naturale Vomero-Arenella, expressed expectations of a prompt response from local authorities.
Alarm among traders
“After 20 years, the smashing of windows in the center of Vomero has returned. We expect an effective response from the Naples Police Headquarters,” says Enzo Perrotta, president of the Centro Commerciale Naturale Vomero – Arenella. “We trust the Chief of Police Agricola who, some time ago, erased this type of crime from the Neapolitan criminal panorama.”
Bologna - They introduced themselves as Carabinieri, wearing uniforms and with a reassuring demeanor, and managed to gain entry into an elderly woman's home using a well-thought-out excuse. There, with skill and composure, they pulled off what could be described as the heist of a lifetime: a million-euro theft in Jewelry and valuables. But the two scammers' escape was short-lived. In recent days, the State Police—Bologna's Flying Squad, Property Crimes Unit—arrested two Italian men, aged 39 and 30, on charges of aggravated theft by deception against an elderly person. According to investigators, it all began with a meticulously staged set-up. Upon returning home, the victim was confronted by two men: one wearing a jacket with the word "Carabinieri" written on it. They told her that her home had been robbed and that the alleged perpetrators had already been arrested. To complete the checks, they asked her to show any valuables, thus convincing her to open a vault where she kept her most precious jewelry. At that point, in a lightning-fast move, the two men fled with a staggering haul. Only then did the woman realize she had been tricked.
Thanks to the analysis of surveillance camera footage in the area, investigators were able to trace a large-engine motorcycle used by the scammers, with counterfeit license plates. Following the vehicles' tracks, police identified a rest area where two large campers were parked—one with Italian license plates and one with French plates—attributable to two Sinti families living between the provinces of Vercelli and Turin. A key detail emerged there: the two arrested men used the motorhomes as mobile bases, traveling throughout Northern Italy. Inside, they transported motorcycles, which they used to patrol cities in search of vulnerable victims, mostly elderly people. The "hits" lasted for hours. After the raids, the motorcycles were hidden away from the campers to avoid arousing suspicion. Only before leaving the area were the vehicles loaded onto board for travel to new destinations.
