Rome – “A strike by accredited private providers? It’s a hypothesis, we want to provide healthy healthcare and with reimbursements of a few euros for tests and visits this is not possible”.
The president of the UAP (National Union of Outpatient Clinics) responded in this way, polyclinics, institutions and private hospitals), the doctor Mariastella Giorlandino, questioned by journalists during the press conference organized today in Rome by UAP (National Union of Outpatient Clinics, Polyclinics, Institutions and Private Hospitals) to discuss the "serious problems arising from the application of the new Tariff Nomenclature, which came into force on December 30", and the direct consequences for private healthcare facilities and citizens. The event took place at the Clubhouse in Piazza Montecitorio.
Meanwhile, on January 28, the Lazio Regional Administrative Court will meet to discuss the suspension of the new tariff list, which came into force at the end of 2024, which has sparked controversy among accredited private clinics and laboratories, according to which many tariffs have been cut downwards.
“We expect common sense from the government and Health Minister Schillaci to review the rates,” added Giorlandino. “We are not against the government, but the errors that damage accredited private healthcare and also the National Health Service, which in some regions will go even deeper into the red, must be corrected.”
Rates: cuts up to 60%, not feasible
“Public health is also damaged, southern regions even deeper into the red”
“In the new nomenclature there are cuts to reimbursements that reach up to 60%. It is not feasible like this, these errors must be corrected, because they will damage us as accredited private individuals, but also public health with a strong disparity between north and south”, continues the president of UAP Giorlandino.
“The Welfare Councilor of the Lombardy Region, Guido Bertolaso, said that Lombardy is losing 1 billion euros, but the southern regions, which are already in a recovery plan, will end up going even deeper into the red”. The accredited hospitals “large and small”, meanwhile, “cannot cover the costs of an ECG reimbursed at 17,50 euros, but how do you pay the professional who does it? On January 28, I expect common sense and a corrective from the Lazio Regional Administrative Court”, concluded the Uap president.
Will to hit the south
“And bankrupt Italian companies”
"It is very clear that there is a desire to hit the southern regions, because it is not possible to make a price list below cost. I would not want them to want to make who knows who buy a few structures", concludes Giorlandino.
"There is a culprit and there are responsibilities - continued Giorlandino - I do not believe that all this is happening in such a superficial way. There is certainly a motive: to cause many Italian companies to fail. We defend health, we do not do politics, we defend Italianness and we protect the citizen, who must not sit around being mocked anymore with 'private health' or 'public health'. Politics - he concluded - should not make it a weapon of conflict".
