Naples – A 46-year-old Neapolitan man, already known to law enforcement for a criminal record, was arrested by the State Police on charges of attempted aggravated robbery. The incident, which took place in a convenience store, Via Toledo, saw the man threaten the clerk with a presumed gun, demanding the cash from the register and the victim's cell phone.

The robbery was foiled thanks to the woman's screams, which prompted the criminal to flee on a scooter.

The officers of the Montecalvario Police Station, who intervened promptly after the report, began the investigation by collecting the testimony of the shop assistant and analyzing the images from the surveillance cameras in the area.

Thanks to these elements, investigators identified the suspect, tracking him down on Monday evening on Via San Gennaro dei Poveri. Upon seeing officers, the man attempted to escape by accelerating on his scooter, but was apprehended after a brief pursuit. During the search, he was found in possession of a switchblade.

The subsequent house search yielded a replica Bruni Guns 9mm revolver pistol, missing the mandatory red cap, and four blank cartridges of the same caliber. The weapon, although not functioning, was seized along with the other items found.

The Judicial Authority confirmed the arrest and placed the man under house arrest, deeming the case justified. The suspect will now face charges of attempted aggravated robbery and illegal possession of a weapon. The incident refocuses the spotlight on security in the city center, where the State Police continues to intensify checks to prevent and suppress criminal acts.
