Naples – A 46-year-old Neapolitan, already known to the police for previous criminal records, was stopped by the State Police on charges of attempted murder rapina aggravated.
The episode, in a shop of Via Toledo, saw the man threaten the clerk with a presumed gun, demanding the money from the register and the victim's cell phone.The robbery was foiled thanks to the woman's screams, which prompted the criminal to flee on a scooter.
The officers of the Montecalvario Police Station, who intervened promptly after the report, began the investigation by collecting the testimony of the shop assistant and analyzing the images from the surveillance cameras in the area.
Thanks to these elements, the investigators identified the suspect, tracking him down on Monday evening in via San Gennaro dei Poveri. At the sight of the officers, the man attempted to escape control by accelerating on his scooter, but was stopped after a brief chase. During the search, he was found in possession of a switchblade.
The subsequent house search led to the discovery of a replica revolver-type pistol, Bruni Guns brand, caliber 9, without the mandatory red cap, and four blank cartridges of the same caliber. The weapon, although not functioning, was seized along with the other objects found.
The Judicial Authority validated the arrest and ordered the man to be placed under house arrest, considering that there were grounds to proceed. The suspect will now have to answer for attempted aggravated robbery and illegal possession of weapons. The episode puts the spotlight back on security in the city center, where the State Police continues to intensify checks to prevent and repress criminal acts.
