History and Purpose of the Music Festival
The Music Festival was born in 1982 thanks to the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture. It became a social phenomenon starting in 1985 and, since 1995, it has taken on an international dimension. On 28 February 1997, the European Charter of the Music Festival was established, promoted by 9 European municipalities and various organizers, with the aim of promoting a better understanding of the artistic realities in the various member countries and promoting cultural exchanges between European musicians. In Italy, cities such as Rome and Napoli were among the first to sign the Budapest Charter in 1995, initiating a European coordination of the event. Since 2016, the Ministry of Culture has promoted the Music Festival throughout the country through the AIPFM. On June 21, music of all kinds fills streets, squares, courtyards, cloisters and places not usually used for entertainment, involving music schools, conservatories, orchestras, bands and associations, also extending to hospitals and prisons, integrating and social cohesion through music.
