The debris ended up in the sea, a few meters from the swimmers, fortunately without causing injuries. But the question everyone is asking is: did the earthquake cause the landslide?

Investigations are ongoing, while the head of Civil Protection rushes to the scene to coordinate rescue efforts and assess the damage.

The population is shocked and fears new tremors. The Campi Flegrei, long under observation for their intense volcanic activity, seem to be giving increasingly worrying signals.

It is not clear whether or not there is a correlation between the shock and the collapse. This is the third collapse of a ridge in the marine area of the Campi Flegrei: the precedents occurred in Miliscola, Monte di Procida beach.

Many people filmed and posted the scenes of the landslide on social media.

The head of the Civil Protection, Fabio Ciciliano, today in Frattamaggiore as part of an initiative promoted in his role as extraordinary commissioner for the redevelopment of Caivano, is going to Bacoli, where a cliff collapsed, to meet the mayor Josi Della Ragione. This was learned from sources in the Civil Protection.

“The landslide occurred in the segment of land on the Marina Grande di Bacoli ridge that has been a cause for concern for some time. There are no injuries,” explained the mayor of Bacoli Josi Della Ragione.

After the landslide, which occurred shortly after the magnitude 4.0 earthquake in the Campi Flegrei area, the mayor recounts what happened: “The Port Authority and I went to the sites and then decided to close the stretch of free beach as a precaution.

The beach that was hit was the one called “sotto la grotta”, the smallest of the four beaches of Marina Grande. The ridge of today’s landslide is already part of the funding request that we sent to the Government for 6 million euros to secure the entire ridge of the “Cento Camerelle” area, the archaeological area. We hope that the new commissioner and the Government will also include this among the funded works”.
