Another episode of violence in a Neapolitan hospital. Last night, in the emergency room of Betania Hospital in Ponticelli, a young nurse, Cino Simone, was attacked during his shift. The healthcare worker, promptly treated by the facility's trauma team, sustained injuries that will require at least twenty days of recovery, barring any complications that may emerge from subsequent tests.

The episode has reignited the debate on the safety of healthcare workers. Teresa Rea, president of the Order of Nursing Professions (Opi) of Naples, expressed her indignation: "We are exhausted. Stricter laws are not enough, especially if they are not applied. Every day we find ourselves commenting on attacks and violence against nurses who, despite heavy workloads, save lives by putting their own at risk."

The hospital Bethany, located in an area defined as "border", represents a crucial garrison for the area, but according to the general director and president of Acoi Vincenzo Bottino, it requires greater support: “A facility like ours deserves greater attention from the police, as promised by Prefect Di Bari. Furthermore, it is unacceptable that, despite the law on arrest in flagrante delicto, the aggressor is currently hospitalized in our facilities without any arrest or detention order.”

This episode of violence is unacceptable. Nurses do a very difficult job and do not deserve to be attacked. Safety in hospitals must be a priority for everyone. Laws must also be applied, otherwise they are useless.

It's strange that we always talk about violence but nothing is done to protect those who work in the hospital. Nurses do an important job and deserve more security. I hope the authorities take action, otherwise we will continue to live in fear.
