Varcaturo. The victim found during the night between Saturday and Sunday along state highway 7quater, shortly after the Varcaturo exit towards Pozzuoli, has been identified. He is a Pozzuoli resident: Salvatore Schiano, originally from the Monterusciello area, known as "o' fuchist."
The man was found lifeless, lying in a pool of blood at the edge of the road, shortly after the Varcaturo exit towards Pozzuoli.
He had been hit by a car driven by a 60-year-old man from Pozzuoli, who had run him over and driven away without providing assistance. Then, when news spread of a body being found on the road, a few hours later the man went to the Carabinieri and admitted his responsibility.
The man had stated that he had not seen Schiano walking along the edge of the roadway and that he initially didn't realize he had hit someone. The man was reported and subsequently investigated for vehicular homicide and failure to provide assistance.
The memory of relatives
"He had gone dancing at a nightclub in Varcaturo, then no one offered him a ride home, so he decided to walk back. We are devastated and in disbelief." is what one of the victim's nephews said. Schiano was known for his passion for fireworks. He was the father of a 13-year-old girl and lived in a council house in lot 15 of Monterusciello, near the Torre di Santa Chiara. Yesterday afternoon the funeral took place in the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli.

Salvatore Schiano's story is really sad and makes you think about how dangerous it is to walk along the streets. I wonder if there are more safety measures for pedestrians. Let's hope these accidents don't happen again.
