Due amphorae from the Roman era, potentially belonging to ancient wrecks, were seized today by the Coast Guard of Palinuro.
The discovery was made thanks to the intervention of the military, led by Lieutenant Samantha Losito, during a series of house and computer searches as part of an operation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office Vallo della Lucania.The precious finds were discovered in the home of a recreational diver. The two amphorae, identified as one of the 'Lamboglia 2' type and the other 'Dressel 1B', can be dated to the XNUMXst century BC. The Superintendency, after having carried out accurate assessments, confirmed that the finds are of high historical and archaeological interest, underlining the importance of their protection.
The operation led to the diver being reported for illegal possession of archaeological finds. The finds are now under seizure, and the alleged perpetrator will have to answer to the charges brought by the Valais Prosecutor's Office. The authorities invite citizens to report any discoveries of this kind to ensure the preservation and study of these precious finds.
