A surreal evening for Enrico Delprato, captain of the Parma, in the challenge against the Napoli at “Maradona”. Starting as a defender and ending as a goalkeeper after Zion Suzuki's expulsion, Delprato commented with bitterness and pride on his team's performance to DAZN microphones.
“Napoli were pushing hard, also fueled by the warmth of the crowd.
It's a shame how it went, because for ninety minutes we held up well, without running any particular risks until the expulsion. Then I found myself in goal, I tried to do what I could, but unfortunately it wasn't enough", Delprato said.
Parma, despite the numerical inferiority and the unprecedented situation in which the defender found himself defending the goalposts, came close to an incredible draw. The captain expressed his regret for the missed opportunity, but also his satisfaction for the performance offered: “Almqvist’s equaliser would have been the icing on the cake.
We deserved it after a great match against one of the strongest teams in the league. We put Napoli in difficulty for ninety minutes, and this shows that we can compete at this level".
Delprato also underlined the importance of carrying forward the offensive mentality that has characterised the Parma during the last season in Serie B: “We have maintained the same approach, and even in Serie A we are showing that we can play our football.
Despite the result, we are satisfied with the performance. Now we have to start again with conviction and continue working on this path".
