Il Archaeological Park of Pompeii is preparing for a Christmas dedicated to history and culture, with a rich calendar of initiatives and extraordinary events that combine the holidays with the discovery of the archaeological heritage unique in the world.
The Christmas holidays do not stop the excavation activities. In the Region IX, archaeologists have unearthed spectacular new frescoes in a reception room decorated in second style.Among the works that emerged, a trompe-l'oeil colonnade serves as a backdrop to still lifes with game, fruit and fish painted on red walls that evoke banquets and conviviality in the ancient world. The excavations, part of a project to improve the hydrogeological structure of the site, testify to the constant attention to the protection of a heritage that includes over 13.000 environments including homes, public and sacred spaces.
From 23th December, the Park expands accessibility with the reopening of numerous alleys of the ancient city, such as the Baker's Alley and the Skeleton Alley, made accessible thanks to maintenance and restoration interventions. For the occasion, they are also opening the House of the Porcellino , House of the Centaur, while the Thermopolium of Regio V, famous for its counter decorated with scenes of animals and mythological figures, returns to its splendor after safety measures.
The Park will be open on 31th December and the 1 January, with different opening hours for the different locations. Among these, the Villa of Poppea in Oplontis will welcome visitors until 17:00 pm. The Baths of the Forum, recently restored, will be open to visitors free of charge during the Christmas period, offering a glimpse of the extraordinary 4th style decorations.
Il Pompeii Children's Museum offers activities dedicated to children, including a thematic itinerary 22th December, an archaeological treasure hunt the 26th December and a special tour with sweet surprises 5st January. The workshops offer a unique opportunity to approach history in an interactive and fun way.
Il 4st January, At the Social and Cultural Farm “Parvula Domus”, the event “In the wake of the Comet” will be held, a walk between nature and well-being, which promises to enchant adults and children. Until 25 February, Archaeological Museum of Stabia Libero D'Orsi will host valuable loans from the MANN, including one of the three obsidian cups decorated with precious stones and the bust of Claudia Octavia, daughter of Claudius and first wife of Nero.

It's interesting to see how the Pompeii Archaeological Park continues to do events during the holidays. The excavation work always seems to bring new things, but I hope they don't disturb the visitor experience. The activities for children are also a nice idea.
