To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Elvira Coda, a pioneer of Italian cinema, the town of Cava de' Tirreni is dedicating a day of celebration to the director. The event, titled "150 Elvira Coda Notari," will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the "Luca Barba" Theater.

Promoted by Macass APS and Linea d'Ombra Festival, the program is organized under the High Patronage of the European Parliament and involves several cultural institutions such as the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, the Unione Circoli Cinematografici Arci, the ANPI Prov. Salerno, together with the Cineteca di Bologna and the Film Commission Campania.

Show and Talk

The day opens at 9.30:10 with the inauguration of an exhibition dedicated to the life and works of Elvira Coda Notari, sponsored by the Martinelli Fund of the Cineteca di Bologna. At XNUMX a.m., the talk “Elvira in the history of cinema” will follow, featuring industry experts, including Giuliana Bruno and Sara Matetich, who will discuss the director’s contemporary legacy. The talk will also explore the challenges faced by Notari, whose works were censored by the fascist regime.

Readings and Screenings

In the afternoon, at 17.30:20.30 p.m., a comparison of literary works dedicated to Notari is scheduled, with the participation of authors such as Flavia Amabile and Emanuele Coen. At XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. there will be a screening of short films that won the “Elvira Coda Award”, followed by the screening of “È Piccerella”, introduced by a live soundtrack. A brief biographical note describes Elvira Coda as the first Italian director, who innovated cinema with authentic narratives on issues such as gender violence and poverty. She is recognized for her important contribution to neorealism, as well as for her courage in representing popular stories.
