The latest transfer window has set new records in men's and women's professional football. According to the “International Transfer Snapshot” of FIFA (January 2025), the number and value of transfers have reached unprecedented levels.
In the month of January, 1,000 new cases were recorded 5.863 international transfers, the highest number ever for this transfer window and growing by 20% compared to the previous record (January 2024). Total spending on transfer fees has reached 2,35 billion dollars, marking an increase in 57,9% compared to January 2024 and the 47,1% compared to January 2023.
The market has been led by English clubs, who have invested 621,6 million dollars, followed by those of Germany (295,7 million), Italy (223,8 million), France (209,7 million) and Saudi Arabia (202,1 million). On the transfer front, the lead goes to French clubs, who have cashed in 371 million dollars, ahead of Germany (226,2 million), England (185,2 million), Portugal (176,4 million) and Italy (162 million).
As regards the volume of transfers, the Brazil recorded the highest number of incoming transactions (471), followed by Argentina (265), Portugal (207), Spain (200) and England (190). On the way out, however, the primacy goes to theArgentina (255 transfers), with Brazil (212), England (211), United States (188) and Portugal (170) completing the top five.
Women's football has also reached unprecedented figures. In January, clubs spent 5,8 million dollars in international transfer fees, more than double the previous record (+180,6%) established in 2024. The recorded transfers were 455, with an increase of 22,6% compared to January last year.
The market has been dominated by English clubs, who have invested 2,3 million dollars and completed the highest number of incoming operations (39). For the first time in history, the female market has seen transfers with commissions higher than 1 million dollars.
