CASERTA – Sentence reduction on appeal for Ivano Belforte, 22 years old, nephew of the historical leaders of the Belforte clan of Marcianise: the Court of Appeal of Napoli he sentenced the young man to eight months in prison, reducing the sentence from the 3 years and 8 months decided in the first instance.
The case, initially classified as usury and then as extortion, was finally downgraded to an arbitrary exercise of one's own rights. Ivano Belforte is the nephew of Domenico and Salvatore Belforte, founders of the gang operating between Marcianise and Caserta, both of whom have been behind bars for years. The proceedings concerned an episode in December 2023, when Belforte Jr. and an alleged accomplice, Mattia Larino, 21, from Macerata Campania, were arrested on charges of having threatened a 23-year-old from San Prisco to obtain the return of a loan with interest.
According to the prosecution, Belforte Jr. allegedly used intimidating tones: “I’ll shoot you… I’ll come to your house and smash your head in… I’ll wait for you outside your house and you’ll see what happens tonight if you don’t give me my money back.” These sentences, reported by the victim to the Guardia di Finanza, had led to a charge of usury, later transformed into extortion during the first degree trial before the investigating judge of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, Daniela Vecchiarelli.
On appeal, however, the crime was further reduced, leading to a reduction in the sentence for Belforte Jr. and the acquittal of Larino, sentenced in the first instance to 2 years and 6 months. It is not the first time that Belfry jr ends up in the spotlight of justice. Last October he was arrested for alleged extortion and rapina tied to an electric bicycle, but the investigating judge excluded the charge of robbery, ordering her release with the obligation to sign for the residual charge of extortion.
