It was held this morning in the prefecture, chaired by the prefect of Naples, Michele of Bari, an update meeting on the topic of the homeless.
The meeting was attended by the municipal councilor for Welfare, Luca Trapanese, the delegates of the Archdiocese and the diocesan Caritas of Naples, Don Enzo Cozzolino and Father Carmelo Rauco and the director of the diocesan Caritas of Pozzuoli, Father Giuseppe Carulli.
During the works, Bari highlighted, reports a note from the prefecture, that there is "the need to further expand the number of beds dedicated to the reception of the homeless, in consideration of the high number of this category of fragile people who require hospitalization during the night hours".
In this regard, Trapanese "specified that the outcome of the publication of calls for tenders to find suitable solutions for the night-time reception of the homeless has often been completely or partially unsuccessful due to the difficulties encountered by potential foster parents". The note also confirmed that "the Municipality is committed to promoting new calls for tenders both for housing and for the widespread reception of the homeless".
The representatives of the Archdiocese and Caritas, in reiterating the sensitivity of the issue, underlined the further problem connected to the fact that "the homeless of the other provinces of the Campania region make use of the structures made available in the capital, given the lack of sufficient beds in those areas".
In order to overcome the difficulties that emerged during the meeting, "significantly implementing the number of existing availability", the prefect suggested to spread "in a widespread manner the knowledge of the municipal announcements that are periodically re-proposed, in addition to the publication required by the provisions of law". The Table will be updated shortly to verify the initiatives in progress.
