Naples – Bad news for Edenlandia, the historic amusement park in Fuorigrotta, which has welcomed thousands of visitors for years.
Article Key Points
The Municipality of Naples has ordered the closure of the facility with a management order that revokes the license and prohibits the continuation of the activities.
The measure came after a series of reports that led to technical inspections inside the park. According to the findings of the Public Entertainment Commission and the Local Police, many rides would present serious maintenance deficiencies, with some attractions in a state of disrepair.
“Following some reports, the necessary technical inspections were carried out inside the Edenlandia Park in Fuorigrotta. Representatives of the Public Entertainment Commission and the Local Police found serious deficiencies in the maintenance of the rides present, some of which were in a real state of decay.
Given the serious and widespread irregularities and the imminent danger to safety, a management order has been issued which provides for the prohibition of continuation of the activities and the revocation of the license", reads a note from the Municipality.
Edenlandia's reply "We will appeal"
The reaction of Gianluca Vorzillo, owner of Edenlandia, was not long in coming, announcing a legal battle: "We will appeal to the TAR. You cannot close a park that represents an economic engine for the neighborhood and the city. This decision puts at risk the jobs of 40 employees and the induced activity of about 120 people between shops and restaurants".
Vorzillo contests the revocation of the license, considering it an excessive measure: "A temporary suspension for possible deficiencies would have been understandable, but revoking the authorization of a park that has 300 thousand visitors a year and has never recorded any accidents is unacceptable".
Now the battle moves to the courtrooms, while the future of Edenlandia remains in the balance.
