Casoria. Ambush at Parco Smeraldo in Casoria in the name of the boss of the Moccia clan: killer and supporter arrested. They also extorted drug dealers.
A full-blown ambush on July 8, 2020 in which the very young Antimo Giarnieri lost his life, an innocent victim of a war between clans for control of the drug and extortion business.
This morning in Casoria the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Naples executed a custodial detention order issued by the GIP of the Court of Naples at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Prosecutor's Office Neapolitan against Ciro Sannino, investigated for extortion aggravated by the mafia method and Tommaso Russo who, in addition to answering for two episodes of extortion aggravated by the mafia method (one attempted and one completed), is accused of the murder of Antimo Giarnieri, 19 years old (pictured), and the attempted murder of a minor, CS, wounded in the left side in the ambush at Parco Smeraldo on 8 July 2020.
The mafia ambush that took place in a side street of Via Castagna, commonly known as “Parco Smeraldo”, according to what was discovered by investigators, led to the death of an innocent man: Antimo Giarnieri. That evening the killer got out of a car driven by a person who is still unidentified, and fired eight shots from a 7.65 cal. pistol at a group of people, four of which hit Giarnieri and killed him, while CS was wounded in the side and fortunately escaped death.
The investigations conducted by the Investigative Unit of Castello di Cisterna and coordinated by the DDA of Naples have allowed to ascertain that Russo's real target was another man, mistaken for the clean Giarnieri who was instead extraneous to the criminal dynamics.
The episode, according to what was reconstructed by investigators, should be seen as part of a violent clash between factions of organised crime fighting for control of the drug dealing area of “Parco Smeraldo”, where the ambush took place.
In particular, Tommaso Russo, identified as the killer of the Smeraldo park (in addition to the murder he is charged with the crime of using weapons in a public place), is charged with the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method, as he would have acted to facilitate the activity and criminal purposes of the Camorra group whose territorial referent is Salvatore Barbato, alias 'Totore 'o Can', an element close to the Moccia clan and currently detained for extortion aggravated by the mafia method. Russo would have acted to affirm Barbato's criminal leadership in the territory, according to the Prosecutor's Office.
During the course of the investigations, two extortion episodes emerged against Russo and Sannino, one attempted and one completed, to the detriment of two drug dealers who, in order to continue their illicit drug dealing activity, were forced to pay a fee imposed by the clan, another symptomatic element of the desire to impose widespread control of the territory through the so-called 'drug dealing racket'.
The violence and ferocity shown by Russo Tommaso emerged in an episode, reconstructed by investigators, when he tore off part of the ear canal of a victim, threatening him "to be good, because now it's me and Totore O'Cane".

In the second extortion, Russo Tommaso and Sannino Ciro then forced a criminal under house arrest to hand over 500 euros, as a monthly sum imposed by the clan, even resorting to physical violence to force him to hand over the money, in front of his wife, who was also brutally attacked while trying to defend her husband.
