Principal finds no cell phone and orders search of children's backpacks

The incident immediately sparked reactions from the parents of the students and the mayor of San Lorenzo Maggiore, Carlo Giuseppe Iannotti, against the gesture of the school principal, who was defined as "an act of unprecedented gravity" and "the most despicable thing that can be done to the detriment of children".

Today, Forza Italia MP Francesco Maria Rubano also intervened on the matter, presenting a question to the Minister of Education and Merit. Rubano highlights that "the school principal, realizing that he did not have his cell phone with him, doubted the Sannio schoolchildren and authorized that the children's backpacks be checked,

In their presence, he asked that the boys' items be checked first - as he thought he had forgotten them in the boys' bathroom - and then the girls' items as well.

It is clear – continues the deputy – that this verification action was based on the suspicion that the children had stolen the cell phone, thus carrying out a behavior that in fact made them feel humiliated, outraged the families and left an entire community dismayed”.

According to Rubano, this is a behavior that "certainly did not represent a quality educational and formative example for the children and, on the contrary, represented a spiteful and acrimonious way of acting".

Added to this is that the school principal "did not consider it necessary to apologize for the disgraceful gesture" and for "having mortified the morals and principles of the entire community". Hence the request to the minister to "verify the facts" and to know, "if confirmed, what measures, including disciplinary measures, he intends to adopt against the school principal".
