In a shocking incident of domestic violence, a man was arrested by the Carabinieri in the Pianura neighborhood of Naples. Outside his daughter's preschool, a 43-year-old personal trainer attacked his ex-wife, punching and headbutting her, leaving her on the ground in full view of numerous witnesses.
The dramatic scene unfolded yesterday morning, when the man, presumably driven by jealousy, confronted his ex-wife, a 33-year-old woman. After the attack, the man walked away, while bystanders rushed to the victim's aid. The woman, still in shock and with a bloody face, immediately went to the Carabinieri station in Pianura to report the incident.
The officers, with great professionalism and empathy, took the woman's testimony, uncovering a series of incidents of psychological abuse and stalking that began last December. The victim revealed that she had never reported her ex-husband, mistakenly hoping it would be in their daughter's best interest.
Under the direction of the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office, Vulnerable Groups Section, the investigation was launched urgently. The Carabinieri acquired and analyzed video surveillance footage, which captured the entire attack. Shortly thereafter, the 43-year-old was located and arrested in flagrante delicto.
The woman was transported to San Paolo Hospital, where she was released with a 20-day prognosis. Her injuries include multiple bruises to various parts of her body and post-traumatic stress disorder. Her attacker is currently in prison, awaiting trial, and will face charges of mistreatment and assault.
