From 6 to 8 September, the city of Gragnano will be transformed into the capital of pasta with the 22nd edition of the “Gragnano Città della Pasta” event. Organized by the Consortium for the Protection of Gragnano IGP Pasta, in collaboration with the Municipality of Gragnano and the Campania Region, the event celebrates one of the most loved and shared Italian excellences in the world.
If we had to talk about pasta through a hashtag, it would be #social. Pasta is in fact the aggregating food par excellence, democratic and inclusive, capable of adapting to any context, even to the screens of our smartphones.
With billions of followers and daily shares on tables all over the world, pasta demonstrates its continuous evolution and versatility, the protagonist of countless recipes for every taste and need. To celebrate pasta in a worthy manner, “Gragnano “Città della Pasta” offers three days of fun, show cooking, talks and tastings.
The city will open its doors to accompany visitors on a journey through the mills and pasta factories, allowing them to "get their hands dirty" and discover how Pasta di Gragnano PGI is made, a symbol of centuries-old tradition and culture. The event includes a series of unmissable activities:
– Showcooking and Tastings: Starred chefs and influencers among the most followed will present traditional and innovative recipes.
– Guided Tours: Tour of the Valley of the Mills and the pasta factories to discover the stages of pasta production.
– Talks and Conferences: Discussions on the tradition and evolution of pasta, with the participation of experts in the sector.
– Live Performance and Street Art: Artistic and cultural animations to rediscover the identity of Gragnano.
This year the Consortium celebrates twenty years of activity, inviting other consortia of PGI and PDO products such as Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO and Pomodoro di San Marzano PDO, to share the origins and taste of Campania. Partners and guests of honor include Origin Italia, Officine San Carlo, FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano, Fondazione Film Commission Regione Campania and Fondazione Intercultura.
The inauguration ceremony will be held on Friday 6 September in the city centre, with the participation of the institutions, the President of the Consortium Massimo Menna, the representatives of the consortium pasta factories and the Mayor of Gragnano Nello D'Auria. The traditional “Cutting of Spaghetti” will follow, as well as the awarding of the prestigious “Gragnano Città della Pasta” Cultural Prize.
The tradition of Gragnano pasta dates back to the 16th century, when the combination of the best durum wheat semolina with the spring water of the valley and the ideal microclimate for drying gave life to a unique and inimitable product. The event will also be an opportunity to visit the Campania town and discover its historical and artistic wonders.
