The Carabinieri of Monte San Giusto have reported three people accused of fraud online in competition with each other: they are a 43 year old man resident in the province of Frosinone, a 20 year old woman from the province of Caserta and a 20 year old from Napoli.
Article Key Points
Of the three, the first two were already known to the police, while the third has no criminal record. The investigation began last August, when a 60-year-old resident of Monte San Giusto filed a complaint. The man, interested in purchasing a car engine, had responded to an ad published on a web platform. Through tricks and deceptions, the scammers had managed to convince him to make an initial payment of 4.800 € for the purchase of the engine.
Not satisfied, the scammers then contacted the victim claiming that the first transaction had not been successful, thus inducing him to make a second transfer of the same amount. In total, the victim paid 9.600 €, which were transferred to two current accounts attributable to the suspects.
The traces left by scammers
Thanks to the investigations into the financial flow, the Carabinieri were able to trace the current accounts used for the transactions, as well as the telephone number associated with the fraudulent advertisements. The three suspects were identified and reported to the competent authorities. During the investigation, the preventive blocking of approximately 2.000 € set aside in other current accounts belonging to the suspects, pending further instructions from the judiciary.
