Roadside checks in Naples – Officers from the Central Investigation Department, the Chiaia Territorial Unit and the Motorcyclists’ Territorial Intervention Group (GIT) have launched a series of roadside checks in various areas of the city, with the aim of preventing crimes and verifying compliance with road regulations. The operations, carried out in collaboration with the Southern Directorate General for Transport, have led to in-depth checks on freight transport and the management of vehicle safety in the Chiaia and Piazza Garibaldi neighborhoods.
In the freight transport sector, about twenty heavy goods vehicles were examined by the GIT, with particular attention to compliance with mandatory rest periods and documentation required for circulation. Several violations were found: a Ukrainian haulier and a Romanian driver, driving vehicles with Polish and Romanian license plates, were fined for irregularities in rest periods, as provided for in Articles 174 and 100 of the Highway Code. In addition, a Portuguese haulier was sanctioned with an administrative detention of the vehicle for having carried out an international transport without a valid license.
In the Chiaia district, the checks involved the area of Piazza Sannazaro, where 43 vehicles were inspected. Of these, two vehicles were seized and four were subjected to administrative detention for lack of insurance or inspection. The massive operation made it possible to combat the abuse of non-compliant vehicles, increasing road safety and compliance with regulations by motorists.
Also in the same area, the Chiaia Operations Unit, together with the Nibbio of the State Police and in collaboration with the Neapolitan Mobility Company (ANM), issued 81 reports for violations, including irregular parking and lack of mandatory documentation. The checks were concentrated along via San Carlo, via Santa Brigida and via Posillipo, areas subject to frequent violations of traffic regulations.
Finally, the IAES – Central Investigation Unit, engaged in operations to prevent predatory crimes in the area of Piazza Garibaldi, stopped an individual found in possession of counterfeit banknotes. The man was reported at large and the counterfeit money was seized by order of the magistrate on duty.
