Deaf and with a heart condition, the young patient suffered from severe pain and vomiting due to a significantly enlarged gallbladder. He is now out of danger, thanks to a complex operation that represents a history of good health at the San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d'Aragona hospital.
The boy, originally from Avellino, had already been admitted to other facilities, but the diagnosis remained generic. Affected by congenital heart disease and equipped with a cochlear implant to compensate for the deafness developed during a long stay in intensive care, he presented a particularly delicate situation.
The hospital radiologists detected an elongated gallbladder, with formations that obstructed the extrahepatic bile ducts. The urgency of the situation led to hospitalization in the Pediatric Surgery department, directed by Umberto Ferrentino.
The surgery, performed with robotic techniques and taking into account the young man's previous problems, allowed the removal of the gallbladder and the removal of the adhesions that were obstructing the bile ducts.
The success of the operation re-established normal biliary transit, allowing the rapid recovery of the patient, who was discharged after a satisfactory hospital course and is now out of danger.
