A journey into the history and spirituality of Naples, discovering monasteries, convents and ancient places of assistance, in the footsteps of religious and lay women who have left a mark on the city with their commitment to faith, charity and hope.
This is the aim of the first itinerary of the programme “Women of Faith, Charity and Hope. Jubilee Journeys in the Convents and Monasteries of Naples”, promoted by the municipal administration in collaboration with the Neapolitan Curia to celebrate theJubilee YearThe calendar includes eight itineraries, with 77 guided tours and 18 musical meetings, in a path that will wind from February 13th to December 21st.
“The Jubilee represents a great occasion of faith, but also an opportunity to rediscover the sacred places of our city and the personalities who have crossed the history of faith in Naples”, declared the mayor Gaetano Manfredi. “We want to enhance our heritage, even the lesser-known one, attracting visitors from all over Italy and the world”.
Among the most significant events of the program is the pilgrimage of reconciliation, scheduled on September 23th, which will touch some of the most emblematic churches of the city: New Jesus, Saints Philip and James, San Giorgio Maggiore and the Jubilee Door of Carmine.
“The initiative will allow citizens and tourists to rediscover our artistic, cultural and religious heritage, giving voice to many women who have contributed to the history of Naples, often without receiving the right recognition", the Tourism Councillor underlined Teresa Armato.
The project was conceived and curated by the theologian Adriana Valerio, archiepiscopal delegate for the laity, with the participation of Don Gennaro Matino, Pro-Vicar General of theArchdiocese of Naples. An opportunity to experience the Jubilee in an authentic way, through a journey through history, spirituality and beauty, in the heart of the Neapolitan city.
