The redundancy fund at the former Ilva has been extended for one year, thanks to an agreement reached at the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies between Acciaierie d'Italia in Extraordinary Administration and the unions.
The agreement concerns the plants in Taranto, Racconigi, Legnano, Novi Ligure, Marghera, Genoa, Milan and Paderno, and provides for the extension of the extraordinary redundancy fund for 12 months starting from March 1, protecting up to 3.062 workers based on the technical-production and organizational needs related to the Restart Plan.
The agreement also establishes that the company will guarantee a salary integration, with the aim of ensuring a salary equivalent to 70% of the annual amount. Active policies and a one-off contribution for welfare are foreseen.
According to the Minister of Labor Elvira Calderone, "the agreement confirms the ministry's utmost attention to protecting employment levels and workers' incomes, especially in this delicate phase of transition of the company. The goal is to protect a strategic production asset for Italy and Europe."

I feel that the agreement for the redundancy fund is a step in the right direction to protect workers but I hope that active policies are effective and not just words, so that workers can really feel safe.
