The young Neapolitan had contacted an 81-year-old woman from Procida by phone and, as in other similar circumstances, had pretended to be her nephew, claiming to need a favor for an online purchase. The scammer had essentially made the old woman believe that money was needed, to be delivered to a courier, 2600 €, a sum which he would repay as soon as possible.
The victim didn't ask any questions and when the "postman" showed up at her door she delivered note after note everything that had been asked of her: the 20-year-old was stopped by the Carabinieri at the Procida station before the doors of the hydrofoil closed. The young man ended up in handcuffs, arrested for fraud. The money was recovered and returned; the man was taken to prison and the procedure to subject him to a mandatory expulsion order is underway.
