Naples - The funeral of Patrizio Spasiano, the 12-year-old who died from an ammonia leak at the Frigo Caserta company in Gricignano di Aversa, will be held tomorrow at 19 noon at the Chiesa Cristo Re, Berlingieri district.
The funeral took place today. Patrizio's mother, her voice broken by pain, declared: "He died alone, he remained in there for four and a half hours without anyone giving him a hand or even a word of comfort. A boy of only 19 years old and an intern should not have been in that place".
The investigations will have to clarify whether the other workers present abandoned Patrizio without the possibility of help or whether the escape was inevitable. The Public Prosecutor's Office Santa Maria Capua Vetere is working to shed light on an episode that is putting the spotlight back on the issue of safety in the workplace.
Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a member of the Green Left Alliance, visited Patrizio's family, underlining the drama of a family destroyed by grief but capable of maintaining great dignity.
“How can we explain to this family, who educated Patrizio in the culture of work, that a boy exploited to the core may not return home because of an accident at work? How can we explain that Patrizio will no longer be with them because he was asked to do a dangerous job without the proper safety?” Borrelli said, raising questions about responsibility and safety at work.
