This morning the regional councilor of the 5 Star Movement Michele Cammarano presented a complaint to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Salerno and to the Campania Regional Environmental Protection Agency regarding the emissions produced by the Pisano Foundries. “In recent days we have been receiving reports attesting to the unbreathable air in the vicinity of the industrial complex located in the Fratte neighborhood.
The plant has been identified several times as responsible for environmental and biological damage in a densely populated area - Cammarano said -. The Spes study, validated by the Ministry of Health and conducted in the municipalities of the Irno Valley, detected in the soil, water and blood the presence of heavy metals such as mercury, cadmium, chromium, antimony and thallium, in quantities much higher than normal".
“Codacons – added Cammarano – has repeatedly denounced that the emissions from the industrial site are the cause of the unhealthy air and for the Salute e Vita Association 'the Pisano represents a danger to public health'. Even the president Vincenzo De Luca, on March 3, declared that the Foundries must be closed because they pollute but nevertheless to date nothing has changed”.
"In my complaint I asked that technical investigations be initiated into compliance with the methods and limits of emissions into the atmosphere by Fonderie Pisano, including through the installation of air sampling stations that allow repeated and timely detection of the substances emitted. Evaluating - concluded Cammarano - the existence of any profiles of criminal unlawfulness and, if necessary, identifying the possible responsible parties and taking action against them".
"The Istituto Superiore di Sanita' - declared the vice president of the Chamber Sergio Costa - has demonstrated that there is a scientific correlation, in health terms, between environmental damage and the health of citizens. Today there are all the criteria to renegotiate the Regional Integrated Environmental Authorization. We must start with constant and continuous monitoring, day and night, of the entire area. We need to find the right balance by balancing the interests for the protection of health and the company with that of workers. Surely the presence of civic observers can give a big hand in this phase. The traceability and tracking of the productive action, shared with citizens is the solution".
