“The construction of the Single Hospital of Sorrentine peninsula and the Amalfi Coast presents numerous critical issues, which weaken the project from the outset.
The hospital structure, designed to serve at least 110 inhabitants, will be built in a geographical area that, due to its characteristics and road system, is daily squeezed by traffic.
The overload caused by the hospital, also in the absence of a parking lot, would be unbearable for the life and health of citizens. Added to this are the hydrogeological problems and dangers that affect the territory.
Our region has always faced a significant shortage of health personnel and it is foreseeable that for the new hospital we will have to draw from other facilities, such as Vico Equense, Sorrento and Castellammare di Stabia.
This could lead to the closure or weakening of these facilities, with serious consequences for access to care". This was reported by the regional councilor of the 5 Star Movement Gennaro Saiello who this morning filed a question on the issue with the regional council.
“In my question I asked the council to dispel the legitimate doubts raised by the local community, to carefully evaluate whether the project is truly sustainable and compatible with the nature of the territory and whether its implementation could entail risks for the protection of public safety.
The funds for the work – concludes Saiello – could in any case be used to finance healthcare on the Sorrento peninsula and optimize local assistance”
