Naples – For over 500 days, the Mascagna municipal park, the green lung of Vomero and Arenella, has been in a state of abandonment.
Despite promises of an imminent reopening, now set for January 25, citizens continue to express deep skepticism.
Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Comitato Valori collinari, has launched an online petition to ask for the resignation of the green councilor Vincenzo Santagada, holding him responsible for the delays and the management of the affair. The petition has already collected over 800 signatures.
“It is unacceptable that an entire community is deprived of one green space vital for so long”, declares New Year. “The work, initially scheduled for 100 days, has dragged on beyond measure, despite numerous appeals and protests from citizens.”
There are still many questions about the matter: why did the first contractor abandon the work? Why were there delays in awarding the new contract? How was the new amount of the work calculated?
Faced with these questions, Capodanno asked for the intervention of the judiciary to clarify the matter and ascertain any responsibilities.

It's sad to see a park abandoned for so long, people deserve green spaces to relax and do activities. There are always many promises, but few facts, I hope something concrete is done.
It is truly strange that after so much time the issue of the Mascagna park has not been resolved. Citizens deserve to have a place where they can spend time and the current situation is unsustainable. I hope that the promises are kept.
