In Naples, in the neighborhood Vomero, the controversy over the construction of underground parking lots is reignited.
The protest was sparked by the project for a new 4-story parking lot in Piazzetta Durante. Gennaro Capodanno, engineer and president of the Comitato Valori collineri, spokesperson for the residents, raising the alarm about the fragility of the subsoil and the uselessness of new garages.
64-Car Garage Project Blocked by City Council
The project involves the construction of 64 garages in 30 months. The council of the Vomero-Arenella Municipality, called to express an opinion, was blocked due to lack of a quorum. Capodanno emphasizes that many garages built in recent years have remained unsold, casting doubt on the need for new construction.
“Failed Policy and Risks for the Subsoil”
Capodanno criticizes the city administration's policy, accusing it of not addressing the traffic problem with alternative solutions to underground parking. Instead, he proposes improving public transportation, which is currently plagued by poor service.
The engineer launches an appeal to the mayor Manfredi and asks for the intervention of the Prosecutor's Office, denouncing the risks for the subsoil, already marked by recent episodes of fragility.
