Pignataro Maggiore – The Caserta State Police arrested a 51-year-old man, found in possession of approximately 16 kilograms of cocaine.
During road checks on the A1 motorway, carried out by the Caserta Nord Highway Patrol officers, at the height of Pignataro Maggiore, a car was stopped that was traveling with its headlights off, despite the adverse weather conditions and poor visibility. The suspicious behavior of the driver prompted the officers to proceed with more thorough checks.
During a detailed search, a hidden compartment was discovered between the two front seats of the vehicle, where 15 blocks of cocaine were hidden, for a total weight of approximately 16 kilograms.
The driver was arrested and transferred to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, pending validation of the arrest by the judicial authorities.
It is specified that the proceeding is in the preliminary investigation phase and that, according to the law, the suspect is to be considered innocent until a final sentence. The precautionary measure was adopted without cross-examination, which will take place before a third-party Judge, who will also be able to evaluate the suspect's possible lack of responsibility.
